The Birnin-Gwari Emirate Progressives Union (BEPU), on Sunday, said that residents of Damari town in the Kazage Ward of Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State have continued to relocate due to incessant bandits attacks.
This was contained in a statement by the chairman of BEPU, Ishaq Usman Kasai.
According to him, the people of Damari are fleeing en masse following incessant attacks by terrorists that besieged the farming community on a vengeance mission, adding that as a result of the precarious situation and the high level of insecurity in the area, women and children were seen trekking for safety.
He added that of eleven o’clock on Friday, about 20 vehicles were seen moving out with escapees
He said the cruel activities of bandits, killing and abducting people in Damari, and adjoining towns and villages were reported to the security agents, but nothing was done.
He cited an example of one of the attacks, saying on Thursday 28th July 2022, the bandits passed through the same Damari town shooting into the air sporadically, and came back to the town in the early hours of 29th July 2022 which is a market day, snatched motorcycles, seized money from marketers, rustled cattle and kidnapped scores, including grain businessmen. He said this was followed the relocation of Ansaru members who were protecting the community against the armed bandits.
He said it’s against the recent daily recurrent attacks by armed bandits, vis a vis reliable information available to the locals on bandits planning serious attacks against the community that made the locals flee their homes.
He said currently, there is no presence of security agents in the town, which is why they are calling on the authorities to, as a matter of urgency, mobilize security personnel to the community to arrest the situation.
